excavation

lyrics

it came out of nowhere
& i know that
i just didn’t know how else
i could’ve hidden
for much longer
the poison that’s been feeding on my
insides from a source
i couldn’t trace
oh i know alone
i can’t get to that place

but i think i’ll be okay
though it’s always been
a struggle in some way
maybe i’ve been here too long
i just don’t know where to go
anymore

it all started somewhere
above water
at a place & time unknown
eventually tied it
to an anchor
told myself, “now it’s the ocean’s problem”
& so i close my eyes
ignore the signs
that the anchor hangs somewhere
in my insides

now i think i see the way
though it’s dark & cold
& probably unpaved
baby i’ve been here so long
if i don’t try my best now
i’ll be gone
