that's life - single

by the smallest one

/

about

originally a part of "what happened?", but i decided it didn't really work anywhere.

lyrics

i’ve been wrestling
with all kinds of things.
you’ve been waiting for him
to pull my strings.

you said to me,
"faith is the key" -
that I will be saved
as long as I believe.

but i’ve thought a lot,
& my idea of god
is different from yours,
& for that we’re wrong.

& the line we’ve sketched
has been pulled & stretched
around the earth,
& we’ve lost sight of the ends.

you check in annually,
to make sure i’m okay.
you ask me if i’ve found him,
& i don’t know what to say.

now that the moon has died,
i wait for the sun to rise,
but she never shows.

& every time i check the clock,
his fingers slowly turn to claws,
& they won’t let me go.

i spent all my time
inside my mind,
with you, in the future,
& everything was fine.

when i woke up,
& the dream was done,
i knew i was conscious,
but i kept my eyes shut.

now i’m looking through
the screen at you,
& i feel my stomach drop -
these stills just won’t do.

& you look at me
through that screen,
& tell me that you care -
i’m not sure what that means.

been looking out my window,
in hopes that you’ll be there.
but I just see my reflection,
& it starts to disappear.

in the darkness of the shade,
all the colours become grey,
& my eyes turn blind.

we’ll fill the ground with separate seeds,
& let the past fall to our feet;
it ain’t great, but that’s life.

yeah, that’s life.
